I found that I made better swings with longer irons like 7i thru 4i when I had a backweight in them. I don't know if it was the counterbalancing or just increasing the total static weight. The clubfitter I used for my last set felt it was just that I needed more weight and so adding the backweights brought the total weight of the longer irons closer to that of the shorter irons. We still MOI'd the set via headweight, but then I had ~ 10g backweight in the 7i and 15g in the 6 for example. On my own I played around with the backweights varying them with respect to shaft weight and grip weight.

I always felt like I struggled to lag the longer irons and the backweight seemed to help me from releasing early.....then again maybe just all in my head.

backweighting would make my head explode.
    no feel whatsoever,imo.

It negatively affects the "toe droop" on the longer clubs but positively affects the "toe droop" on the shorter clubs, but only when your tee time is earlier than 9:48 am on even number days.

Personal experience tells me I like the performance of heavier grips, but I like heavier clubs overall and also prefer counter balanced shafts. Now the funny part is, I get better performance from clubs laid out as such, but prefer the feel of a bit head heavier club. I built a couple sets of TLT and Moi matched sets, didn’t see a performance gain, just went back to build to a feel and match from there, generally around swing weight, loosely based on balance point and all about, do I like it? End of the day, I’m not good enough to worry about it.

Got to get me a nut bra. Do they come in in XL?

BTW, my sack looks older that Clint Eastwood too. 😱
