  • Mickelson vs Tiger in $10 million winner-take-all in the works

I'd watch it. Although I agree with ESPN's Mike Golic that if Phil and Tiger were putting up their own money - it would be much more interesting and dramatic.

Two of the greats, going head to head. Lots of money at stake, and lots of money to be pocketed for such an exhibition (provided that it's competitive).

I disregarded your post because it had political overtones regarding news media.

Last I checked, this is a golf site, not a political site. Some of us prefer to keep that out of the fray. And I appreciate you being decent enough to not bring that into my own discussion here in my topic. Thanks in advance.

Back on topic.... I think this could be a 3x per year exhibition that people would tune into, but again, as long as it's competitive. I don't think Tiger and Phil are that far off regarding skill level. Slight edge to Phil, because he's playing more tournaments than Tiger the past year or so. But two all-time greats... the biggest rivalry in the game the past 20 seasons, going head-to-head, for $10 million....

I'd tune in. But I would prefer it to be live. It would make great tv and could boost ratings, if it's competitive. Big if.

I agree, way more interesting if they put up their own money. Even for them $5 mil isn't chump change.

What is the over/under on topics bitching about too much coverage of Tiger?

"It's like there's hardly anyone else out there!"

      😅

The only reason that was added because some asshole is always getting on Fox News, otherwise it wouldn't have been there.

I want to know if they are posting the cash or if the coverage is a paying for it. 5 hours of TV with reasonably priced advertising should cover it I would think. It would be far more fun if it was their own cash (which is probably what they will say anyway) and then they will split the profits.

        Meh
Might watch if it's a USGA set up.

They're the two best golfers of the modern era... both well into the sunset of their careers, granted. And although both have indicated that their rivalry isn't nearly as intense as it was a decade ago, as they've reached out to each other over the past few years and become more friendly - I think Phil and Tiger still see each other as rivals and would love nothing more than to beat the other's brains out on the golf course.

I think there's still a lot of pride and ego there, enough to make this interesting.

Jack and Arnie were always trying to 1-up one another, well into their senior years. Tiger and Phil are the Jack and Arnie of our generation basically. We've not got to see them go 1-on-1 very often during their careers, and I'd be interested to see how their games stack up under that type of 1-on-1 competitive atmosphere.

For them maybe, but not for me.

Which two golfers playing today would make this type of exhibition more interesting for you?

Not the players but the format that doesn't interest me at all.
Not sure what format would interest me, but watching millionaires play golf for more millions of other people's money doesn't make me wanna tune in is all.
Maybe if they did a modified Superstar's Competition I would watch.
                😉

If Phil waxes Tiger in a beat down, it will only air once. The fix is on. 😉

Agree. KInda in your face to the folks who complain about golf only being for the rich. Just sayin'.

Either one could have a bad day. I don't know what kind of format would be most interesting but I think a plain stroke play matching could be really boring if either player gets a few strokes behind. I wish they would just drop the whole idea.

Can "me again" possibly be Puttnfool? I don't know. Was Puttnfool from Crawford County, PA and all-knowing about Sharon Stone? LOL

professor I dont think Meagain deserves that kind of undesirsble comparison, though the name "Meagain" would be an ironic way to stage a stealthy second coming.

Meh, maybe in their prime when there was a rivalry. I could see tiger/Phil vs. Jordan/Rickie or Jordan/Justin.....something like that would be fun.

I'll watch it,kind of reminds of the old Shell's Wonderful World of Golf!
Would be much better theater if they put up their own $$$$$$$!
