Been there twice.....hope to go again sometime. Hope you have a GREAT time. It's an avid
golf fan's dream!!

Take it all in and enjoy . Words cant really do justice to the experience.

If this is your first trip,
.....plan to take LOTS of pictures
.....plan to walk the WHOLE course
.....be sure to try the Pimento Cheese sandwich just for the experience (!)
.....don't visit the souvenir shop until you're on the way out (don't worry.....they're NOT gonna sell out of shirts, hats, etc., and that way you won't have to lug them around all day. But DO find out when they close first!!)

I am going Friday through Sundy this year.

But actually I would say get your stuff at the gift shop early and then check it. They have a place where they will hold your bags until you come get it. Stuff will sell out. There are people who will come buy a ton of stuff and then sell it on eBay. Last time I was there shirts in popular sizes were hard to come by on Sunday.

Unfortunate no pictures since you are going on an actual tournament round. Cell phones and cameras not allowed through the gates on tournament rounds. The metal detectors will get ya if you do try.

Exactly. That is the one downside of going on a tournament round day. Oh well, it just means we can take it all in instead of trying to get the perfect pictures!

Sounds like you have been before, how many times?

100% get your merch first. Things sell out and the lines, while always long are longest towards the end of the day. You can check it, put it in your car if you drove and parked or do what I did, carry it around.

If there is any chance of inclement weather you could risk not getting anything. They close everything immediately when the weather closes the course. Last year we talked to guys who were in line twice and each time b4 they got into the merch tent the course was evacuated , and the secind time for the day. They got zilch.

All I can say is I'm 100% envious.

Good luck with the trip and have fun!

Will Tony Romo be in the booth with Jim Nantz? Now, that'd be fun.

I've seen guys on other discussion boards say they hated it. It's definitely not my favorite, but after all,
        it's a Masters tradition!!!!

My bad on the souvenirs......I assumed you were going on an early practice round day.....

I am from Texas and have had my share of Pimento Cheese sandwiches. Not my favorite, but not too bad.

          i actually liked it

There are other items on the menu and reasonably priced (i.e. ham and cheese) which surprised me because all I heard about was the pimento cheese. The pimento cheese sandwiches were a bargain but nothing was priced to gouge.

Weirfan - I had a pimento cheese and it surprised me in that I liked the taste. The ham and cheese was delicious. Augusta National could hammer their patrons on food/beverage/parking but choose not to - even the merchandise tent prices are in line for any other professional franchises logoed items. I read an article a couple years ago that there is a cottage industry where the entrepreuners buy thousands of dollars of merchandise on-site annually, can mark it up, and still sell out online or on ebay.

I am glad they don't hammer you because it's already such an expensive trip, if you have to travel and stay. If you want to add in a round or two of golf even moreso. Food and drink are good , very cheap and Merchandise is good quality.

a normal $60 a night hotel > minimum $250 a night. If you can find one. I booked mine almost a year out.
$40-$60 dollar green fee within an hour > easily $150-$250.
hard to get a good diner reservation.

I guess with 50,000 people a day descending on the smallish town that's to be expected.

We are lucky in that we are staying with friends who live in Aiken, about 20 minutes away and don't need to pay the price for the hotels in the area or drive several hours in. We won't be trying to play golf while in the area as we will be visiting with friends in Charleston when we get in as well as Aiken.
Of course, there is still airfare from Cali, rental car and hotel in Charleston as well as the food we will be eating, which won't be McDonalds!
