A 250 yard par 3 -- that's the problem right there. Considering that most players can't hit their driver longer than 225, I'm surprised that most people aren't hitting drivers there.
On one of our local courses, I should be playing the back tees because I hit flip wedges into many of the holes from the white tees. But if I play the back tees, I have to contend with about three holes that are almost certain doubles/triples for me. That includes two 235+ yard par 3s that are almost always into the wind and are guarded by sand, water, and rock. In fact, if I'm trying to score, I hit a 7-iron on both of these holes just to get the ball into play and hope to hit my pitch close. I happily take a bogey on them.
(FWIW, one of our local course has a "grey" set of tees. There isn't a set of grey tee markers, but the card indicates which tee you should hit from on each hole. So, you play a mix of white and black tees, depending on the difficulty of the hole. So, on the course I describe above, it would have me on the back tees for most of the holes, but it would have me hitting from whites on those three crazy holes. A person could just do that on their own, but I think it is a great idea that the course has made it "official" on the card.)
