ANOTHER OLD MAN'S GOLF BALL TEST IN THE BOOK~
This time I took last week's keeper the New 2019 Srixon Q Star Tour 2 three piece urethane covered ball (see above post) even though it finished 2nd to the discontinued Maxfli U6 Tour Soft 6 piece urethane ball it's a keeper due to price and performance!!!
Pitted it against.....the 2019 Taylor Made Project A 3 piece urethane golf ball.
This test was close and I mean close!! End result is that both balls are KEEPERS!
BUT I DO PREFER THE PROJECT A BALL......
HOWEVER, I can't afford $36-$40 per dozen golf balls so unless they have a 2 for one sale (like the new 2019 Srixons here that I got for 2 dozen shipped at $30.58 total), I can't afford to play the 2019 Project As! If money wasn't an issue I'd go with the Project A ball over the Srixon Q Star Tour 2.
COURSE RESULTS....I scored a 43 for 9 holes with the Srixons but lost 2 balls, one due to a penalty stroke and the other scarring and cut up...........not saying it's the ball and not the golfer but those are the facts.........I would definitely blame the golfer.
HOWEVER an UNUSUAL feat for me was that I chipped one in from off the green to save par with the Srixon and Lord knows I don't pitch well!!
NOW WITH THE PROJECT A ball I scored 50 for 12 holes on the same course without losing or scarring a ball and used the same ball all 12 holes.
BUT HERE AGAIN I DID SOMETHING UNUSUAL FOR ME..........
HAD 2 BIRDIES with the Project A ball !! Both on the green with the putter.
Played 12 holes instead of 9 with the Project A ball since it was late and they let us play an additional free 3 holes (of course playing with someone that works there helped too).
Insofar as differences I held more greens with the Project A ball verses the Srixon and putter better with the Project A ball.
Drop tests onto concrete didn't show that much difference ( I know, unscientific but hey it's a comparison).
I liked the feel of the Project A better all the way around but primarily off the putter. Distance with the irons was comparable with both balls, but I did notice that I had a few more yards off the driver with the Taylor Made Project A as I hit 2 drives longer than usual and it was noted by my fellow golfers.
Used the same testing criteria where 9 holes are played on the same course with both balls, same clubs with only the balls being different,
The 2019 Taylor Made Project A golf ball was the winner but not by much (it was close) and when you compare the prices the 2019 Srixon Q Star Tour 2 would win out only due to economics as I was able to pick up 2 dozen for $30.58 shipped (much cheaper than the one dozen Taylor Made Project A balls at $36-40 for one dozen). I didn't pay for the Taylor Mades as I'm a low income tight wad right now!! If money was no object I'd opt for the Project A balls just for my overall preference.
All in all from this golfer's perspective and this test the Srixons are a great bang for the buck and I'll be keeping these 2 dozen and ordered another 2 dozen while I can buy them 2 dozen for $30.58 shipped, especially since my favorite ball the Maxfli U6 Tour Softs are discontinued and the going price for any out there is way too high for me to buy one dozen. ACTUALLY the 2019 Taylor Made Project As are about the same price as the discontinued Maxfli U6 Tour Softs both too rich for my pocket.
Not scientific testing I know, but just how this 70 year old 16-18 handicapper played them and it does give you some info on pricing, how a Super Senior felt about playing several 9 hole rounds with each.
I'll continue to do this finding future replacements for my discontinued favorite ball and letting others know about it. As of now Titleist DT Trusofts, Callaway Supersofts, Wilson Zips, Wilson Regular Duos, Srixon Softfeels, Taylor Made Project S and Kirkland 3 piece balls are out and 2019 Srixon Q Star 2 balls are in as well as any 2019 Taylor Made Project A balls that may come my way!!!!! Hint Hint!!!!
You can bet money that if a sale goes up for the new Taylor Made Project A golf ball at a 2 for 1 price, I'll be buying a few dozen!!
Next up I'll be testing the Taylor Made Project A ball or the Srixons against a box of Callaways given to me as a gift a couple years back...they are the Hex Chrome + balls in the silver and black boxes, which reads a Tour Performance ball....a 4 piece ball..... but I'm not sure about if the cover is urethane or not. πππ¨π
