At this point, from the limited knowledge I have, I think I'm going to go the less dangerous route, and use an oil like coconut or olive oil in a slow cooker. This option is less prone to ignition, you can do it inside, and you can cook with it. However, the resulting oil has a much shorter shelf, so they suggest you make smaller batches than with the Everclear method.
