I spent my youth in the Midwest through my college days. That was fun as a kid.
Love the Midwest but hard to live in an area where driving is a total chore for much of the 5 months from November through March. Heck, we had a couple of 20+ inch snowstorms in April in the years I lived there. I think the biggest was on April 10.
Broadcasting took me to Vegas where it was very different. I moved around from there to Chicago, Denver, etc. Texas was a compromise between Midwest and Vegas.
Summers in Texas are terrible. Way too hot. Kids don't play outside in Texas like they did up north. Summer is so perfect minus road construction and mosquitoes up north. Texas gives all those things and 100 degrees and dangerous dew points.
June, July and August and most of September better be indoor activities. Fall is about 2 minutes as is spring. Winter is a handful of cold days and maybe a snow or ice day here and there.
For me, I couldn't see myself living back up north. I loved it but it's just unnecessary when you can live somewhere that isn't treacherous for 5 months out of the year.
Biggest issue besides summer heat is there's never a white Christmas. Sucks doing the holidays in shorts and a tee. Has never felt right.
