My pops grew up on a farm and they grew popping corn. We had burlap sacks full if it in the basement. When it came time dekernel it, we would sit outside for hours until all done. think, giving it gas on a motorcycle, back and forth, but with both hands....it would come right off. Hands would get a bit raw! We had popping corn all the time, and I still love it. We had a popper that was round with a non stick top, straight metal piece that was fixed in the middle and went around to stir, bowl top, put on the oil, kernels, then the top and plug in!
Now I buy white corn from fleet farm and pop it in a big pot on the stove top, oil, kernels, top, heat, boom. So good. My toppings are olive oil and salt. If I'm feeling frisky I will sub Cajun seasoning for salt or add some Parm or Parm/Romano blend. The best is lapping up the left over olive oil and Parm after the corn is gone!
