I love that GLFTPS does a simple contest and provides winners with a significant prize, and I will definitely participate in it.
Having said that, I was introduced to a more convoluted way of picking for the majors at another site, and I wonder if anybody here is interested in trying this method, just for fun.
It relies on picking a "team" for yourself based on the official World Golf Rankings, as follows:
- You have thirty OWGR "points" to spend on picking a team.
- You can pick any player in the field - it's not a draft, so in theory you could have the exact same team as someone else.
- You can pick up to 10 players, not more.
- Each player's "cost" is their OWGR points total rounded down. So, Dustin Johnson "costs" 9; Justin Thomas 8; Bubba Watson 5; etc.
- Anyone whose OWGR points is less than 2, costs 2. In other words, no player in the field costs less than 2.
- Your final score is based on a total of the money won by all the players on your team. If one of your players misses the cut, you get 0 for that player.
- As a tiebreaker, you also pick the winning score relative to par (e.g., -12).
11 pm ET Wednesday deadline for submitting picks.
