Yikes......and inmates get charged for their stay, probation/parole fees, civil commitments (jail time) for unpaid municipal (non criminal offenses), etc. I get having to be accountable for your actions, but when you have to continually pay the man, it's hard to ever get a leg up and actually do something with your life. There are people who want to and can change! What's the point of keeping them in debt and making them "pay" by doing more jail time when often crime is not the incarcerating offense.
It's so bizarre that this could even be possible. In my mind I hear the banjo riff in Deliverance on repeat when I read stuff like this!
