darpar
The games between these two teams rarely disappoint, last night was no different.
The teams are evenly matched and games are typically close. That said, last night the US were clearly the better team. I follow both teams closely and take part in discussion boards relating to womens hockey ( have a daughter who plays high level ) . I watched all 6 pre tournament games they played. It was generally felt that the US speed would be an advantage on the bigger Olympic ice and this played out last night, especially in the OT when the US dominated play. US had a bit more depth and played more of their bench than Canada who ran mainly with their big dogs. Canada had the game late but a horrible line change with about 6 mins left gave the US a breakaway and a beauty tying goal. A bit of Deja vu , US had the game late in Sochi, and Canada pulled out a late tie. So exciting !
The US womens hockey program has done a great job and the future looks bright. Their U22 and u18 teams both won World championships this year , Canada ended 5th and 3rd respectively.
In terms of equality of these 2 National teams.......past 5 World Championships US won 4 Canada 1. Past 5 Olympics , Canada won 4 , US 1, 5 wins apiece in these 2 major events, cant get much more even than that.
