Sorry for interrupting, but I think he's referring to a grip that you have used, then removed by cutting it the length of the grip with a utility knife. I have a coffee can on my workbench filled with different kinds of grips I have used, then split this way. You can slip one on a club you want to try and not have to waste grip tape, time for it to dry, not to mention having some method of removing the grip if you want to re-use it. Also good for quickly approximating the swingweight when building a club.....
PS.....I'd be interested in hearing how these work out and what length you settle on, how you tip-trimmed for flex, etc.
