Any idea of why Wishon repaced SP700 Ti for the commercial 6Ti 4AL in his 919THI driver head?

It's a sad state of affairs. Does the cheaper 6Ti 4AL perform as well? Why change something that works? RIP Wishon.

Performance is the same as the SP700 version.I also have the old HL model it is the sound that is that is different.

I don't know. I am still gaming the old 919THI driver. Sweet stick.

Maybe something to do with the new management (Diamond Golf Intl.)?

The face was 6-4 in last year's catalog, before Diamond Golf

As others have said, previous 16 catalog indicated 6-4.....I always thought it was 15.3.3.3. I still like sp700, followed closely by 15.3.3.3

Cost of production went up quite a bit in the last 5 years. Not surprise they follow the model of the restaurants, smaller plates and higher price for the same menu. In this case, using the less expensive material and production procedure.

Same foundry in China now produce Honma since they own the brand. Someone told me there is a Chinese driver retail for $14 K............. The shifting of production models for golf clubs from components to OEM now geared toward the high end users. The bottom layer will gradually fall off or lose the top factory for production because of cost.

sdandrea1 Agree there's a possibility that Diamond might have something to do with it. They took operations over in 4Q2016. How long do you suppose Wishon and Diamond were in negotiations? Perhaps the conditions of the sale mandated the for changes in material?

      Pure speculation of course!

Agree. Tom could have sold the farm long before the announcement and stayed on for transition help. Just speculation.

        pellmell in Jun

If Pellmell is right about the date I am lucky. I bought the new bendable hosel head in October 2015 so the face should be SP700. The sound is quite muted and the feeling, soft. Both very similar to those of the Nike Vapor Flex and the Ryoma Maxima.

Balleszabal Probably. Mine is older and it definitely has a muted sound and feels amazing.

On June 2016 the specification changed on Wishon's website to 6Ti 4AL. But this is not the first time. When the 919THI was introduced in 2008, according to their catalog it was 4.5Al-3V-2Mo-2Fe Titanium.

pellmell Not a chemist or metallurgist or whatever, so don't understand what all that means. But, that blue head 919 was the hottest, longest of all of them. Of course, crazy bastage me sold it off as the longest driver I ever built. And it was a beaut with the blue HOF Whup N' Shaft.

I did make a killing on it via the sale though. Huge $$$, compared to what I had invested.😉

Uh oh. My original 919thi cracked and Wishon replaced it. I hope I didn't get a switcheroo. SP700 is my preferred face material. I have been a little disappointed with performance with the new one. Is the material stamped on the sole somewhere?

No,it isn't.Only the specs in the web say the face is Titanium 6Al4V when not long ago it was SP700.

That might not jive with what was posted in the printed catalogs. 2015 Sp700 2016 6/4 Cup face.
