(SOUTH COURSE) Site of the 2008 U.S. Open, site of the Buick Invitational. I was a Caddie @ a recent corporate event. The greens were in excellent shape! The bunkers provided a soft fluffy sand texture. At this time, the fairways may have some brown spots however, over seeding has begun & ground repairs are being made. The rough at this time is very playable. HOWEVER, in the coming months, the rough will be overgrown in preparation for the US OPEN! Beautiful Ocean views from hole #3, 4, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 & 17. Keep in mind the PAR 3's #3, #11& #16 ALL play into the wind. Make sure to ADD almost a (2) club difference for compensation. Some of the holes have a crosswind to contend with while just a few are downwind from the tee box & fairway. HOLE #13 depending on where your tee shot lands, your 2nd shot from the fairway MUST BE CALCULATED CORRECTLY TO AVOID HAVING A SERIOUS DOWNSLOPE ON YOUR APPROACH SHOT TO THE GREEN. (Yardage marker from 145 - 200 is the location of the down sloped fairway). To avoid this, the perfect target yardage will be to land near the 120 yardage marker which plays to an uphill green. Holes #16, 17 & 18 are great finishing holes. Hole #18 PAR 5: Your approach shot to the green is very important. The water in front of the green from the front edge to the back edge of the hazard is 65 yards. Your approach shot "carry distance" must be at least 85 yards to reach the green otherwise the slope of the green will allow your ball to roll back into the water. Best to aim for the middle-back of the green taking extra yardage. Overall: A very nice layout especially for a municipal golf course.
